The best Soul night I've ever been to ......record after record of outstanding brilliance, wonderful people , great venue ...wow !! Cheers,

Eddie Hubbard

Well it was exactly what it said it was going to be "Just Soul". The place was half full when we got in at 8.40 and filled up very quickly. Even Steve Woomble chose here rather than the Grovener Hotel London! All the Djs played a varied set of just great music. I didnt hear one person say anything other than what a good night they were having. Too many great tunes played to pick out a favourite but the Mayfield cocaine track comes very close. Well done Sean, Tats Kev and Bully. Looking forward to March. It will be like a Yarmouth warm up session.

Brilliant Night, thanks to Sean, Tats, Kev and Bully for putting on the event, plus all those who travelled from all over the country to make it such a great do..
It was "Just Soul" and was just awesome.
Take a bow fellas !

Nothing to say that hasn't already been said FANBLOODYTASTIC!
I sincerely wanted to say I had the best night, spine tingling stuff guys you did your job well! I know Mr Wade had a good time too! we didn't want the night to end it seemed to be over too quickly, and March seems a long way away!!
The best bit for me was this is the thanks I get and I caught you in a lie and whispers getting louder and look at the boy and don't ask me to love again, in fact all of it!! The best bit for Gary was coming home with a record. Thank you Sean. And standing outside with my bag and drink while I needed to have a dance to this one and this one and this one............he is hampered I know it! Thanks to Mark and Lorraine for very kindly getting us back to the travel lodge. Now don't tell anybody else as they'll all want to come!

....................................................................................................................................

Last night was absolutely fantastic! You 3 old fellas and Bully, should be VERY proud of what you achieved last night! A full venue, and a full dancefloor ALL night.
2 o'clock came round far too quickly for me, I could happily have continued listening to some wonderful tunes and dancing for a good while longer Roll on March... I'll be counting down the days.
Kirsty

Great night, great venue and SO MANY FRIENDLY FACES, great to see you all guys and gals, superb musically (as it should be) and I would not change a thing !
WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED
Rob & Karen

....................................................................................................................................

Just wanted to join in the congratulations guys, a top night!
The quality of the music was just so consistently top notch it was unbelievable, and even when a tune caught you by surprise at its inclusion, it just worked!
March 27th can't come quick enough for me, looking forward to it already. Thanks chaps, a great evening.

An exceptional evening, really thought the fellas' nailed the correct musical ethic..'If Its soulful and brilliant, play it' loved the Barrett Strong and the Curtis Mayfield tracks, two pretty established soul artists, proving that it doesn't have to be some obscure name that has vanished forever (even though there was more than enough of that quality) i really liked the room different location from the last time I was at the venue, brilliant to meet so many good soul people special mentions to Steve M and his charming wife (thanks for the lift), good to meet up with many like minded forward thinking soul affecinados, good to see Nev, Simon M, Girth, Binsy, Dylan, Nev, Shep and all my other friends on the soul scene. Well done guys you have the makings of a very special night, and have to say it's a long time since I really enjoyed dancing but last night it was bang on the money...Hats off.

What an absolute pleasure to be able to go to a venue without labels, No northern, crossover or modern, Just Soul, and to be among lovers of soul whatever it's genre is a big plus. Well done Sean, Tats, Kev & Bully for reminding us of what we've missed since Pitches, Pheonix & Hollingwood.
Going to be a long wait for the next one but I can know it'll be worth it.
John

....................................................................................................................................

Venue.....people.....dj's ..........music..........one word - QUALITY! THANKS FOR A TOP NIGHT
Nev

....................................................................................................................................

Just the same as whats been said above. Music was great and varied. My pick would be the Hesitations "is that the way to treat a girl" just hit the spot for me.
Dylan

....................................................................................................................................

Just Soul, the guys interpretation of the nights title was exactly that, plain and simple 'Just Soul' Sean had said from the outset to expect anything and everything, and we got the lot. Such is the wealth of musical knowledge and experience of these guys that the whole night just flowed through style, genre and tempo as if crafted by a veteran production team.
Lovely venue, Great Hosts, Superb Company and Just Soul music with no policies, class or boundarys. Think Rich summed it up ''even when a tune caught you by surprise at its inclusion, it just worked!'' I admit to thinking 'never' once or twice but within seconds subconciously withdrew the comment as I realised, yes it works, and work so very well it did . Our thanxs to Sean Tats Bully and Kev for a wonderful night,Back in March?...................You Bet!

Great night, great people and great atmos, a right Soul knees up. Always a joy to see Bully with 2 pints on the go.
Nice to be reminded now and then that Soul is about the voice and not the £/$.
Thanks guys, see you in the spring.

What a night...it was just as it said on the tin..JUST SOUL....fantastic. Im actually typing this with Bullys CDs blasting out & getting blown away all over again what a weekend this has been.
Thanks Bully, Sean, Kev and Tats for a spectacular night

CERTAINLY THE BEST NIGHT OUT THAT I'VE HAD FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE BOYS KEPT IT SO PLAIN AND SIMPLE AND THE NIGHT SEEMED TO BE OVER SO FAST, ALWAYS HAD THE MAKING OF A GOOD NIGHT. A FEW OF THE MANY HIGHLIGHTS FOR ME WERE;
SANDRA WRIGHT, I'LL KEEP RUNNING BACK.
RICHARD CAITON , I'D LKE TO GET NEAR YOU.
JAHEIM, JUST IN CASE.
CHUCK COCKERHAM, HAVE I GOT A RIGHT.
FOUR TOPS, STILL WATERS.
JEAN WELL, WHAT HAVE I GOT TO LOSE.......HOPE THE JOCKS PUT UP THEIR LISTS, JUST SO THE PEEPS WHO WERE UNFORTUNATE NOT TO ATTEND, SEE WHAT THEY MISSED.
BRI PINCH

What else can you say that's not already been said, this really was a great night with great people, great tunes and great atmosphere, all real buzz about the place, well done to all concerned, and so good to see so many folks in to support, and to top all that you even got Pam dancin' to some none oldies
Hope to make the next one.
Barry

Thanks guys for a great night. Thought all the DJ's were great
Definately be back next time

....................................................................................................................................

Best night of top drawer music, Ive had in a long long time.
It was said earlier, about unexpected stuff finding their way into DJs sets, but there was no shoe horning in, everything was silky smooth "this is the thanks i get" played by someone mid set, everything told me that just wouldnt work.............guess what, worked like a dream, and the floor was rammed
Good to put some faces to names - skegsoul / stevem / mark whiteley / brett a fantastic night of "JUST SOUL" for those who couldnt make this one, i urge you , dont miss this next time round
Shep

....................................................................................................................................

As with the other comments above, I would like to add my praise and thanks to all concerned, for an excellent night.
I have not heard a better mix or selection of recordings in a long time, which was a testimony to the credibility of the gentlemen behind the decks.
Well done : 10 / 10
Malc Burton

....................................................................................................................................

Already been said but what a brilliant night this was if you missed it tuff... love the way the cheaper more obtainable sounds got the best reception, not saying the big sounds didnt do it but some great underplayed/neverplayed music. cant wait for the next one. CONGRATULATIONS WELL DONE KEV BULLY SEAN & TATS.
Tony

....................................................................................................................................

Fantastic location, fantastic music, fantastic crowd......Yep a fantastic time all round - Almost 50 years of Soul from 50 states of America! OK,alright maybe not 50 states, but once we hit Alabama and Muscle Shoals, it was certainly a little more than.. JUST SOUL. Chaps, reserve me a seat for the next overnight "Greyhound" to New Orleans please.
Dave R.

....................................................................................................................................

Same positive comments from us as well, one of the highlights of the year , superb atmosphere and quality soul all night but with the DJ line up and having been at the Sean and Tats show twice this year at Blah,Barnsley we never expected any thing else. Hard to pick a top tune of the night but if pushed would have to say E J & The Echoes played early on by Bully (a current fave of mine).
Big thanks to all involved
See you soon
Paul, Sue & Elaine (AKA The Shadow)

....................................................................................................................................

What can I say that hasn't already been said? When you put four genuine soul fans in a room ( combined age 2017) you should expect a cracking night and that is exactly what we got.
Take a bow guys, great stuff all night. A special thanks to Tats and Ali for their wonderful hospitality and Bully for the records, Simon for bizarre mod memories.
Roll on the next one

....................................................................................................................................

Forgot this event was on (something to do with age I feel!!), but Biz called early Friday evening and asked if we (Janette and myself) wanted to go along. Hadn't planned going out, thought I might as well at least the tunes will be okay so Biz picked us up and off we went. I was not one bit prepared for what we found there.
The Venue: Posh hotel, toilets one could eat one's dinner off with little or no ill effect, a dance floor that matured as the evening progressed.
The 'Crowd': As one wag commented "If the Devil were to cast his net"…….. Didn't know over half the faces but felt like I had known them for years. The depth of 'Knowledge' present in this venue on this evening could have more that written 'The History of Rare Soul' four or five times over but they were the type of people who didn't need to write about it as they actually lived it in venues like this one. As we got talking Biz and myself came to the conclusion that if all those attending who were not actually dee-jaying had brought their own vinyl collections in it would probably be the most sought after pile of plastic in the known (soul) world.
The Tunes: Bully, Tats, Kev and Sean just played Soul, no more, no less. This may sound a simplification of the tunage this night but, with all the bollox stripped out, all the egos left at the door Just Soul is what there was, no more, no less. No more was needed because these guys pulled out tune after tune after tune, each as good as the last (Not better, not worse but equal) and there are few venues where one gets this consistently all night.
The Atmosphere: The 'Knowledge' didn't stifle the friendliness of this group of people, they shared their 'knowledge' with newbies like me with no patronisation, they loved to dance and they did dance with the floor never being empty and often one had to politely 'fight' for a little bit of space to step-out in.
Great night, friendly enthusiastic people, music to define the very word 'Soul'.
I have been to many good soul nights this year, a few very good ones, one or two excellent ones but none of them compared to this.
The next one's in March, Sean & Tats, a quote from the film Jaws – "You're gonna need a bigger boat"!

....................................................................................................................................

Great location for us North East lads, if it wasn,t for the roadworks, 75 minutes I reckon to an absolute Soul haven. There was no script, no agenda, if it oozes soul stick it on, Bully setting the scene when we got there with the likes of EJ and The Echos, "Put a smile on your face" Ted Taylor "I wanna be a part of you" Kev Briscoe diversifying with the likes of cortez and The Entertainers "Life!" and on and on and on, Temptations were well represented "I could never love another" being my particular fave, 20p from Selctadisc over 30 years ago and how good it sounded played out, as Sean stated "no hot boxes here". Andy and Sean just kept rollin them out as well, great atmosphere, great company, great inception of a do that must now go on for legendary status.

....................................................................................................................................

Thanks guys for putting on the best Soul night in years. If any one thinks they are a soul fan and werent there they'd have to have a bloody good excuse because it had absolutely everything.
Matt S

....................................................................................................................................

What more can I add to what everyone else has said but What a bloody fantastic night. Lovely to see so many friends and make some new ones along the way.
Thanks to Tats, Sean, Kev and Bully.
We will definately be back in March, it's already on the calander.
Nicola & Gilly

....................................................................................................................................

I'd just like to echo all that has already been said. Fantastic night, best night of the year for me. Good news the next one will be on a Saturday though, should help with work. Good to catch up with some people I've not seen in a while, especially James who I've not seen in over a year (lucky fella isn't he).

....................................................................................................................................

At last, a Soul night where the bulls##t is replaced with skill, dedication and good taste. 4 real soul fans playing from the heart and not from the cheque book. A sensational night of 100% soul perfection. next years dates are in the diary already. The Just Soul movement has begun.
Mel

....................................................................................................................................

Best cross section of soul music I've heard since the (old) days of Canal Tavern and Pitches. The selections were mindblowing from  all the DJs covering 6ts up to today and the dance floor loved em all. Heard that somebody said it could only happen in Europe, too see such an open minded crowd enjoying themselves and into the real mccoy. Obviously not been to Just Soul yet more fool them. Great job guys, we'll be back.
Dave

....................................................................................................................................

We were only there for the last couple of hours due to the lengthy journey. But it was the musical highlight of my year so far. And the toilets were indeed jaw-dropping. In a good way.
A fantastic night: well done to you all for putting it on.
Am looking forward to the March one already. Glad it's a Saturday- it's rare for me to arrive anywhere early doors, but if I start getting ready now, I might manage it.
Wendy

....................................................................................................................................

I had been looking forward to this for weeks but sadly missed it due to unforseen circumstances. I really shouldn't have read all of the rave reviews as they have only made me regret not being there even more. I will make every effort to be at the next one for sure. They look like being the 'must go to' nights of 2010.
Midge

....................................................................................................................................

I knew it was going to be a good one and it was. Nice venue too and I always wondered why we couldn't have "Posher" venues that worked. I went to the loo at one stage and even that was Posh!!!

Musically I have to say that this was finally an event that not only stuck to it's theme of "Just Soul" but was truly "Across The Board" for me. Leroy Hutson "Lucky fella" doesn't get many plays on the "Northern" Scene so that made me wobble when Andy put the needle to the groove.

I love the fact that the guys considered my birthday for the next do on March 27th 2010 and I guess that cakes will be the order of the day!!!!
Jonathan - Indalosoulclub

....................................................................................................................................

Finally, a Soul Night run by DJ's who know what Soul really is. I'm sick to death of modern nights playing dodgy jazz and dance music trying to pass it off as Soul and ATB venues with DJ's that play the same 50 trophy records everywhere you go. This was the real deal from start to finish and set a standard that others can only dream about. Well done all of you.

Just Soul II

....................................................................................................................................

The second event in the Just Soul series was, to me, proof that the first one was not just a mirage or indeed a flash in the pan.

One wag jokingly commented on a 'smug-like' expression upon the face of one of the promoters, but if one looked closely one could see it wasn't smugness at creating an event with the calibre of this one but pride.

Pride born from the basic ethos that there are so many likeminded people who share the vision of a soul night such as this, not only share the vision but celebrate it by travelling many miles to sip sweetly from the elixir which is 'Just Soul'.

Not everybody towed the party line this night, I tried so hard to explain to two Just Soul first-timers that it wasn't actually a 'Northern Soul' event as they complained to me (must have one of those faces that looks like it receives a lot of complaints!!!) that there was no Northern Soul being played.

After explaining the ethos of just soul I just thought to myself, if ever there was a case for doing what is said on the tin this would be it, perhaps one should make sure one reads the label on the tin before opening it!

Once again the music worked for me, I'm a mid-tempo kind of fella and the variety of vocals, beats and rhythms were, in the main, served up mid-tempo. One or two commented that they may have liked the tempo to be varied a bit more with one or two more faster numbers added into the soulful soup but I couldn't possibly agree with them because I'd then be the proverbial Turkey voting for Christmas.

Tune of the night for me, out of five-and-a-half hours of 'tunes for the night' was a first time hearing for me of Willie Walker – Run Around. Just like days of old, a tune one has never heard before dragging one by the short and curlies and forcing one to dance…… now that sounds a bit Northern Soul(ish) to me!

Next one in July, in diary and already willing and able to enjoy yet another night of Just Soul.

 ....................................................................................................................................

Very enjoyable, packed to the rafters and a real Yarmuff feeling and with Mark Houghton, Bully and Sonia smack in the middle of the floor the singing circle was complete. Nice posh hotel albeit a bit hot on the packed dance floor!

Tats, Shaun and Kev gave us what we wanted, lovely soulful crossover music. No surprises, no straying into other genres, we all knew what we were going to get, what we were there for, and they didn’t sway from that.

I still can’t believe how full it was at 9.30. Good stuff. (and only 23 miles from home) Looking forward to the next one. X

 ....................................................................................................................................

We had a great time, thanks everyone. I haven't been to a venue that's got so packed, so early, since the Hardinge Arms!

We had a room right above the decks, so when the mind was willing but the body unable I heard the last hour in me jim-jams snuggled in bed.

(Very rock n' roll) Lovely to see everybody pre Essence.

The first night was just so fantastic that I, like Coops, was a little unsure if it could be matched... But match it you did. Well done fellas!

Looking forward to July already

....................................................................................................................................

Well, we in the South London Massive have a general rule of thumb, that if the return journey to a soul event is going to take longer than we'll actually spend AT the event, then it's a no no. Let's say Just Soul was cutting it fine, with a three-hour each way trip

But...we had no hesitation making the journey, based on all the recommendations from the first one in November, and we weren't disappointed. I can't remember the last do I went to where there wasn't one record I didn't like. I love the midtempo numbers, as it means ridiculous heels are no obstacle to dancing  I know Dru & Roz would have liked a little more in the way of upfront soulful dance tunes, but even when they weren't dancing, there was no shortage of friendly crowd to chat to so we all came away happy.

Simply fab to see Kirsty 'Human Force Field' Connolly & Michael, blasts from the Thorne past Pontefract Man and Jim 'Shuffling Man' Wishart, Phil & Annette Service up from Hampshire, and lovely Soul Source boys Spirit & Incognito. And the less said about evil kitten murderer Rich B the better.  Lovely to meet you Drewes

Great to meet some of the DJs - Sean 'we're not worthy' Hampsey, 'See what you coulda won' Bully, & Tats 'under pressure from the massive' Taylor. Fab night, great turnout, top tunes, plush venue, full dancefloor all night. Doesn't get much better than that.

Top night, great venue , great people & great music . What more could you want.

Barnsley crew had a great time.

....................................................................................................................................

Top night again fellas

As coops says the event is "Just soul" so the clue is there for all to see, if it was called "Just RnB" it would take the promise of a lottery win to get me in the place

Great to meet a few new faces off here and see like minded people enjoying what we all love, not bickering about it behind a keyboard, if I had complain about anything the sound system needs tweaking and the bogs are too nice, see you all next time can’t come round quick enough

....................................................................................................................................

It was a fantastic night ! tune after tune after tune. Where else could you hear a Bobby Bland 7ts record and a Bobby Bland 6ts record the same night I'll tell you...... no where that’s where. Brilliant night Lads. Good to speak to so many people D'Arcy, Mark H, Binsy Mr and Mrs Elliot, Brett, Girf, Lorraine Dearlove Mick n Mo John Benson etc etc If I didn’t get to speak to you my apologies too many tunes to dance to my knees are buckled today. Roll on July but see some of you at Essence

Sean, Tats, Kev and of course the mighty Bully thanks for another great night. Just what was needed

....................................................................................................................................
Can only echo what’s been said, Nice to be reminded of the reason I listen to Soul is the voice and not the price tag, I forget sometimes.

Thank you to you all for a great night with good people and to Tats for 'Im someone who cares' and 'These eyes', special to me them.
Jim and Squeeze
....................................................................................................................................

Another magical night lads, everything has already been said including celebrating the soul voice rather than the pricetag.

One record really brought that home to me amongst all the amazing records played which was Paul Kelly - You make me tremble, a truly wonderful but underplayed track but with a full dancefloor.

Thanks to Tats and Ali for being wonderful hosts on Friday and well done to Sean, Kev and Bully for keeping the quality control so high
Binsy

Gotta say what a great night.  I was celebrating my birthday with my closest friends in great surroundings, listening (and the odd dance)to quality soul music, what more could anyone want?

First timer for me and Trish, and all ready in diary for next one. Not a bad tune all night, thanks to all, might have to stay next time didn’t get back till 5.30

....................................................................................................................................

Well what can I say that not already been said, another great night at Just Soul, some of the tunes these guys play just blow you away, and has someone already said they are not all expensive tracks, looking forward to the next one already and may just stay over this time.
Barry Cooper

....................................................................................................................................

Gotta say what a top night it was, the music quality was not just incredible, it was wonderfully wide... there are very, very few soul nights that have DJ line ups able to play 60's thru 2010, and everything in between... Willie Walker, Betty Everett, Curtis Mayfield, Jaheim.....it was very special.

Well done Sean, Tats, Bully and Kev.... a united soul scene.... it's gotta be world peace next...
Cliff Steele

....................................................................................................................................

Brilliant night, where a tune was played on its musical merit not on its value, and what a selection there was too.

No pretentious DJ’s trying to look the Big "i am" ........JUST SOUL

1st just soul was great and thought it would be hard to match but this was as good..... one small critique if i can offer it was, that due to increased numbers of people (it was a packer) the volume of people gassing overshadowed the sound system especially in the bar area, so for an hour or so it was difficult to hear some of the tunes, a speaker over in that area may have helped (I am half deaf though) but a quick shuffle nearer the dance floor when a space became available soon took care of that.

BUT please do not take that as a downer it is meant as a helpful comment, the music was top notch and cemented a return visit for me at the next JUST SOUL event.

another highlight of the night is talking to John Benson, its is a real treat, the stuff that man knows is fantastic...got my little book out and jotted down some stuff John

Myself and Mr Bri Pinches debated many a tune from the night on the way home and as i only am allowed out once every 6 weeks saving my permit for this night is a "MUST DO"

Bully, Kev, Andy And Mr Hampsey showed us what brilliant soul is out there across the spectrum and long may they continue to educate me
Geordie Johnson
....................................................................................................................................

Another first timer at Just Soul, what a cracking night, loads of folks I not seen for ages and some tunes to die for and only 9 miles from home.
Thanks a million, I'll be there for next one
Lakey

....................................................................................................................................

We had a great night again, as already said this event is about what for us is the most important thing about soul music 'The Voice' and tune after tune played by everyone emphasised this at 'JUST SOUL II', Gene Chandler, Percy Sledge, Darrow Fletcher, Four Tops, Dells, etc.etc ......... but the tunes that stood out for us on the night were FridaySaturdaySunday , Ann Bogus , Tower of Power and without doubt the tune of the night Lamont Dozier - Can't Get Off Until The Feeling Stops assisted on vocal by Bully............, and Big Maybelle , what a tune to finish with.

Great warm up for Soul Essence, well done guys, can't wait for part III.

See you all soon
Paul & Sue (and shadow)

.........................................................................................

okay, so how does one improve such a unique event as this?
after just soul II many said 'leave it, if it ain't broke don't fix it'. Well there was a more diverse tempo of quality tunes than had been in the previous events but this only enhanced Just Soul because the content of those tunes were, well, just soul(ful). On a personal note for me Doc Peabody and Johnnie Taylor slipping onto the decks rounded the event of as the 'tunes amongst tunes' and took there rightful places amongst Curtis Mayfield, Ann Peebles, Marvin Gaye, the Impressions etc. etc.
The next one is in November which is ideal because there is a sufficient gap between events to tease and build anticipation, the organisers got it right when they decided this should not be a same-old monthly 'do', it is far too special for that.
John Benson's sets were really not noticable and that's meant to be a compliment because his choice of tunes simply bended in with the four regulars sitting side-by-side with them for quality and soulful content.

Okay, so how does one improve such a unique event...... extend it of course, but hold on, they just did that. 6:00 / 02:00, eight hours and still wanting more.
The 'early doors' in the july heated evening brought out some very special 'beat-ballads' and deeper soul tunes, again, a great addition.
So if this humble revue kind of puts you off going to Just Soul in the future, well, perhaps it's for the best, it may not be right for you but, those that go know.... it don't get much better.

Coops

.................................................................................................

Another wonderful evening of the very best in Soul music from master practitioners. An even more varied playlist than before I'd say and even better for it. So much fantastic stuff played alongside the very very well known things, such as Juniors "These Eyes" and The O'Jays "Use Ta Be My Girl" which is exactly how it should be.

Wonderful music, great people, absolute quality DJ's, music coming first and foremost, again, how it should be, and another dilemma for the boys as to how to top it in November. Well theres no doubt they will. Miss it at your peril. Undoubtedly the place to be, to listen to the music rather than a place to be seen.

Just Soul. Just Brilliant. Again.

Steve Mannion

.................................................................................................

Ooh that was special

Didn't spend as much time on the dancefloor as with the last two - simply because it was too hot and I spent a lot of time outside! Perhaps a "24 h..our girdle" was not the right underwear choice for such a balmy evening... Next time I shall do as the men do - and let everything wobbly roam free ;)

Musically yet again we were royally treated - these four men plus there handsome helper all bounce off each other in a way not normally witnessed behind the decks. Everything flows perfectly, and none are afraid to play what they want - as they know deep down its what we all want too. It certainly works for me and theres a whole host of tunes just swarming round my head.

Roll on November

Kirsty

Due to other commitments this is(shamefully I must add) the first time weve been able to make it .We knew what to expect and of course this event delivered ,and then some::  .Even the fierce heat of July couldnt even begin to dull the proceedings in any way whatsover :sweatingbullets: :sweatingbullets:   .

JUST PERFECT

Steve Jay

.................................................................................................

Just perfect for me too steve, arrived early as was staying at the hotel this time and had a couple of beers with a few of the lads while they set up, must say big improvement with the sound system guys  then back at 6 to hear utterly sublime music all night, highlight of the night for me was coops moonwalking to the jacksons  great too to meet up with a few new faces too  roll on november for the next instalment, bet everyone wont be hanging out the back doors then
The only way you lads can improve on this event is give away free beer then it would be soul heaven

Another great night at this venue. Thought the last one was good, but this one was even better. A refreshing change from my usual venues, and I will definately put the next one on my calendar. Brought two 'newbies' with me, Claire and Diddy... both thoroughly enjoyed the night... roll on November.

Sat. eve ... & definitely in need of some Soul therapy ... !

I enjoyed reading Sean Hampsey and Andy Tats Taylor's Just Soul website ... esp. their summary statement ... which does sound gud to me ... so away the lads, well me on m' lonesome actually ... hehe! I just had to go ...

A *seven & a half* hour 'round trip' journey later, to one of the deepest Northern outpost's that evening ... what do i honestly think ... apart from the 'mind is willing but the body is no longer capable' ... hehe!

well ... firstly, it woz brill' seeing so many familiar faces, catching up with lots of friends (esp. on here), inc. a as 'hard as nails' no messing hard-core posse who travelled all the way up from down South ... the Southern softie image bites the dust ... caus' we were there ... rightfully supporting this doo ... !

Was the marathon round trip journey definitely worth it ... 100% yes !!!

Would I do it again ... 100% definitely, yes !!!

Did the evening live up to the above Summary statement ... 100% definitely, yes ... it never wavered at all ... !!!

It doesn't come any better than this for me...no soul snobs, no Pretentious djs,.... just music we all love and played by people, for people, not afraid to hold our heads up to the sky and say WOW to a pure soul tune even if it was a 70's chart smash..so what...gone are the boundries to rarity & price ....in are the pure delights we all love.

Fantastic is all I can say, i enjoyed it so much that we stayed later than expected and i missed the kebab shop..now those who know me will now be saying F**K me it must have been good.

Fantastic to hear John Benson playing keep on doin Glenn Jones not heard it out for many a year,
heard too many good tunes to list but.....whens the next one......... there was so many there from Barnsley we should have got a bus up then I'd be able to have a few bevvies :D

Keep it up guys this is what its all about

Geeoooooooooordie

.................................................................................................

A fantastic night, agree with Geordie the best of the 3 Just Soul events so far and the other 2 were pretty special.

Brilliant up for it crowd keeping dance floor busy all night even with the heat, great idea to open the back doors.

All 5 DJ's played superb soul music with nothing to choose between them, quality all the way.

Top tune of the night for us (and there were plenty to choose from) was Impressions - Potent Love played by Tats, AWESOME !!!!.

Only downside of the night was we missed the 1st 2 hours which I'm sure would have been as good as the last 6.

Next one firmly in the diary.

Cant really add anything else to what folks have said but in two words this was `soul perfection`. looks like if im to get to anymore i will be havin words with the missus. i will be back

.................................................................................................

We landed around 2.30 headed straight into the garden for a llittle liquid pick you up and never really stopped.
The quality of the music was really good as we would expect. Spent most of the night just outside the back doors as it was sweltering but it was a great night.
Cant really fault any of the tunes though for me the Willie Walker run around was my highlight. See you in November if not before.

This was the first time for me at 'Just Soul'
All i can say is 'chuffing great. loved it.
See you at the next one.

Will you be doing single event tickets or season tickets Sean?
Can you put me down for an advanced booking for a season ticket bud?
As Biz pointed out, just to see Coops moonwalking to the Jacksons again. Been a bit p*ssed off with the scene the last couple of months and I think I sussed out why on Saturday night. Having had the fortune of attending the previous 2 Just Soul events I now feel a little complacent in wanting every event I attend to be of this caliber. I think I've set my reequirment bar a little to high and will have to learn to live with the dissappointment.

Good to catch up with some I don't get to see very often, and of course those I do see a bit more often

See you at the next one hopefully.

I remember stating on this thread after its inception that Just Soul would go on to attain legendary status, well after the 3rd installment last Saturday I am even more convinced of this than ever. Myself, Pete Foster and Gaz Simon were there for the start cos we knew that from the off at 6pm, these guys would playing stuff that with the exception of the Jim Wray lounge at Yarmouth, you wouldn,t hear out loud anywhere else, and we weren,t to be disappointed, all tempo,s covered, but my over-riding memory was of hearing Ann Sexton "I'm His Wife", something I have played in the house for over 30 years but would never expect to hear out loud, but hey, why be suprised at what these guys can pull out of the hat, sound after sound of quality soul just rolled from the decks from all four guys, soul fans playing for soul fans, I won,t use the term "DJing". Socially brilliant aswell, cos everyone is of the same mind and attitude. Caught up with loads of great folk, but especially nice to speak to Chris Marriot, drop me a PM if you see this Chris. Agreed, the best one yet, Tats, Sean, Bully and Kev, you,ve really started something here, I know I am speaking for a great number of soul fans, please keep it going.
Roll on November

To think we nearly didn't go!!!!

We went to the first one and thought it was really good. We missed the second due to other commitments, and when we read it had been mid-tempo nearly all night we dithered about going to the 3rd event..................... what a good choice we made to go!!
Brilliant night, both musically and socially.

The November date is treble underlined in red on the calender!!

Vicki and Kev

.................................................................................................

Just Soul, well that in itself is a falsehood, it is much, much more than that. These guys deliver BIG TIME. I know having heard them many, many times and I can say that any night they are involved in has got be special. So running their own night it has just got to be EXTRA SPECIAL.

One thing they all have in abundance is TASTE and that shines through wherever the play.

Let me tell you I ain't been yet... but can testify to the quality that is played having as I have said known these chaps for a long time. So, if you ain't been and that include myself (only due to health grounds) THEN SHAME ON YOU.

Just get there - I am going to definitely make a supreme effort to be there at the next one in November. Come on you know it makes sense.

Best regards and respect to the lads Kev, Tats, Sean and Bully for doing what they do best and playing QUALITY SOUL no matter what the cost or rarity.

Fraser Dunn aka DJ Slimfast.

Just Soul - the reason I still drive stupid distances to a Soul gig - bloody awesome night with the best music ever. No smart arse ego's, just top choons with a fantastic crowd of people - well done to Sean, Tats, Kev & Bully for all the fun . . . 'king outstanding men !!

PaulT
.................................................................................................

Paul Thrower has already touched on why one would drive stupid distances to a soul gig - and I could list loads of reasons why I'd drive even further to be at a gig like this.

My first visit - can't believe I missed three already but that's my loss. I won't be missing any more. Tune after tune after tune of glorious music, and, as it says by the name of the gig - JUST SOUL!

Sean, Tats, Kev and Bully - take a huge bow. You deserve all the plaudits going for this gig.

All this quality and fun with just the nicest people on planet earth for a fiver?!!! Do yourself a huge favour and get to the next one in March 2011. It's a no brainer!

Cheers,
Kev OXO

.................................................................................................

Have to agree with Kev and Paul on this, cracking night, was my first time and won`t be my last. Was good to see some many faces and meet a few people who i`ve only ever spoken to on forums. Cracking hotel, me and Girth felt a little out of place in the posh part of the restaurant wearing jeans,t-shirts and drinking pints of bitter.I thought we were booked in the other bit.Hats off the guys.

.................................................................................................

Excellant night loads of great music and crowd who appreciate the ethos of the night.
Great atmosphere with people arriving well before the start time to just have a natter and relax before the onslaught.
I say it every time.... where else would I hear Bobby Bland "I wouldnt treat a dog" played out at a venue? No where thats where. Keep it up lads

Adam G

.................................................................................................

Agree with all of the above. Quality music all night, no mediocre rare records, no egos just solid soul music.

Binsy

Can I ask all future 'posters' to temper their reviews.
We KNOW it's probably THE best evening soul event for a long, long time.
We KNOW the music is.... well.... JUST SOUL (but a whole lot more).
We KNOW that those who attend have undisputable taste in soul music.
We even KNOW that there are not many venues around where one feels one has to wash one's hands BEFORE entering the immaculate toilets, but.....
Here's the rub.........
if many more folks come along there will be NO ROOM on the dance floor
there will be NO ROOM at the tables,
in fact there'll be NO ROOM at the inn full stop.

It's not that I want to deny others the sheer joy of just soul it's just that it's a bit like the maltesa in a packet of revels... one wants to keep it for one's self and let the other buggers have the 'coffee' sweet!

Perfect night guys
Coops

.................................................................................................

My first time there and I was absolutely stunned by the whole event. Fabulous. I am only sorry I had to go early to get ready for a 5 o'clock start at work. I am already looking forward to the next one in March  2011. Thank you guys.

Tony

.................................................................................................

What a fantastic night of great music you guys provided for us again on Saturday, outstanding.
I never thought to hear such tunes as Barbara Lynn's "This Is The Thanks" played out to a packed
dance floor, amazing.  Thanks for all the hands in the air Just Soul anthems and I look forward to
hearing more of the same on Solar this coming Sunday, and of course on March 5th 2011.
Undoubtedly the best night out for real soul fans available in the UK today...........no labels, no gimmicks, JUST SOUL.
The most appreciative crowd I have ever had the pleasure of being part of, amazing music from all the guys on the
decks, Thanks to all involved. Roll on March 5th 2011.

Midge

Well, what can I say that hasn't been said many times before, not just here but in general soulful chat country wide.

Northern, oldies, modern, jazz funk, R&B, rare soul or whatever labels one wants to use then Just Soul is none of those, it's simply what it says on the tin JUST SOUL

Absolutely fantastic night enjoying quality soul music in the company of like-minded folks who know and appreciate a soul record on its own merits without all the "it ain't rare" "it ain't sixties", it's not fast" it's not Northern" hangups.

Sean, Tats, Kev & Bully just keep on delivering the goods time after time. Quality soul is a very deep pool indeed and I believe these guys have only scratched the surface so far, there is so much out there awaiting plays to those with the ears to listen.

I, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, look forward to whatever future Just Soul events will deliver to our appreciative ears.

Looking forward to Sean & Tats on the radio, check it out and get a taster.
Dave

Following Barry's words of wisdom on the subject of 'gushing' I'm not going to. That said I cancelled a weekend in the Lakes for this one, and I just can't imagine what would stop me being there in March...

You've hit the nail right on the head for me boys.

Best to all,

Richard Broughton
