Sean Hampsey

Began a 'lifelong love affair' with Soul Music in the late 60's. The Southern Soul of Stax in Memphis and Detroit's Motown were the catalyst that led Sean into Soul. A teenager with a box of records, he began DJ-ing in 1973, initially working clubs throughout the region, and was resident at the Charade Club Rotherham for 4 years, dedicated to the promotion of new release and classic Soul. Migrated to Allnighters in the late 70's at such groundbreaking venues as Clifton Hall Rotherham and into the early 80's at Cleethorpes Winter Gardens, Bradford Queens Hall, Warrington Parr Hall etc. He helped champion the birth of the 'Modern Soul' scene in the UK and the acceptance of what he calls 'Real Soul' on the Allnighter circuit. Sean was one of the PITCHES crew in the mid 90's, which coined the phrase 'across the board' along the way. This consummate pro has been a regular DJ at the UK's premier Soul Weekender, Soul Essence, Yarmouth, for the past 18 years, where his 'Midnight Hour' and 'Goodbye Songs' sessions are always eagerly awaited!

Looks a helluva lot younger than his years.

Andy 'Tats' Taylor

Another lifelong soul fan, whose appetite for the music has only been matched by his appetite for steak and chips. At an early 14 stone he was mesmerised by Sam Cooke only to be led into serious eating disorders by Mr Womack and company. The deeper it got the more frequent the trips to the fridge. Laura Lee was the catalyst for the gastric band operation, which was unsuccessful due to a Sam Dees dessert. The search for new delights led him to 100's of stateside trips scouring US flea markets and ghettos to satisfy his appetite. Constantly surprised at being asked to play records at numerous soul venues up and down the country, his erratic DJ-ing style has led to both criticism and accolade. The portly Mr Taylor might often miss the opening grooves of the vinyl, but you can guarantee when it hits it will be uncompromisingly soulful.

Worth his weight in Soul.

Kev Briscoe

Has just celebrated another birthday with the realisation that it is 40 years since he bought his first Soul record, hopes to buy his second one soon. Was lured into Soul music at the local Youth Club (remember those!) before discovering the Northern Scene when it was still good (i.e. before people like Bully came along).  First met Sean in their mid teens when they both weighed 10 Stone and had hair.  Tats, off course, has never weighed 10 stone. He is particularly passionate about Deep /Southern Soul and was a regular in the Deep Room in the early days of Soul Essence. Despite the age difference he still fancies he could take Bully over three rounds. However, although he is approaching Tats’ girth he could not out eat him. Considered by everyone who meets him to be the nicest bloke they have ever met.

The deeper he goes, the better it gets!

Ian 'Bully' Bulloch

A late addition to the JUST SOUL team, having become a 15 year old mod at school, Bully's peers were listening to the likes of the Jam, and the other newly formed mod groups.  He was  taken another route by a local Wigan regular who  compiled two Memorex C90 audio cassettes that were to shape his musical preference for life. Whilst his mates were talking about the latest Jam release, his own release was to go back and listen to the virtues of the Brenda Holloway and Kim Weston and other artists on these two life changing cassettes. Having sold his Vespa, because of its distinct lack of pulling power, his life was to take another route by finding Soul Weekenders..... after a spell pursuing his sporting ambitions. Now he has been invited to DJ by the other Just Soul DJ's, which nicely coincides with the need for a Doorman at the venue.

Not to be messed with.

Say Hello :)

On the night, don't be afraid to say hello to our very own Fab Four. They might be Huge Megastars, but you'll find that they are very approachable - (at a safe distance in the case of the Bull).
